Photos tell us a story
Humans long for connection. We want to hear stories and get to know people.
The old saying goes something like, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Does that mean that a collection of photos has the power to tell a story?
I think so.
The importance of a good storyteller
When I was growing up, my grandma lived in an apartment that was part of our house. My siblings and I would often spend mornings with her as she whisked us off into imaginary worlds using the power of a story.
Whether we were in the sky riding on our flying swingset, in the ocean being tossed about by the waves and wind generated by a box fan, in Mr. McGregor’s garden avoiding being captured, or pretending to be birdies as she fed us gummy worms, my grandma knew how to tell a good story.
A good storyteller can make the difference between falling asleep and being on the edge of your seat with excitement.
Storytelling influences my photography
As I go through a shoot, I seek to get to know you better and learn what gets you motivated and excited as well as what pulls at your heart.
I don’t want to tell your story because it’s not mine to tell. I want to come alongside you and help you share your story.
